Professional: Admitted to the Utah State Bar and Federal Bar in 1972. Worked as a trial lawyer at the law firm of Strong and Hanni in Salt Lake City, Utah 1972 to 1983. Litigated a variety of matters for plaintiffs and defendants including product liablility, commercial, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, anti-trust, mining claims, oil and gas, insurance matters, construction, fraud, personal injury, real property disputes, and represented land developers in a variety of matters including zoning and other issues involving local governmental entities.
Tried numerous jury trials in both the state and federal district courts, and argued cases before the Utah State Supreme Court and the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Appointed a Circuit Court Judge in 1983 by Governor Scott M. Matheson. Appointed to the Third District Court by Governor Norman Bangerter in 1986. During his tenure as a District Court Judge, he served on various legislative and judicial committees, the Board of District Court judges and served as the presiding judge of the Third District Court for 3 years. Conducted hundreds of settlement conferences during his years as a judge. Retired in March of 2005. Since then he as continued to serve as an active senior judge and has also conducted multiple mediations. In 2007 he was appointed by the Third District Court as a Special Master to handle all pre-trial matters in a complex civil litigation, which was settled prior to trial.
